The Port of New Orleans recently announced that a new type of state-of-the-art shipping vessel called “Bahri ships” will be calling on the port every 24 days, after a recent deal with Bahri Logistics that connects New Orleans to markets in the Mediterranean, Middle East and India.
The new ships are capable of loading and unloading cargo of nearly any type, whether break-bulk, container, roll-on/roll-off, or project. This represents a particularly significant boon for maritime workers and longshoremen in the New Orleans area because it adds roll-on/roll-off service to the port’s capabilities for the first time since 2005, further strengthening its competitiveness as a preferred destination for the maritime shipping industry. The news is already making a buzz with local media and further demonstrates the importance of the Port of New Orleans both to domestic and international shipping, and to the local economy of New Orleans.
As New Orleans continues to grow as a center for maritime workers, Lambert Zainey reminds both workers and their employers to work hard but work safely. Maritime injuries most often occur when workers are rushed, improperly trained, not supervised or not provided with sufficient gear to perform their jobs safely.
Despite best efforts, maritime accidents will occur, and when they do, an injured longshoreman or maritime worker should contact an experienced maritime lawyer. At Lambert Zainey, our primary goal is to provide answers to questions before an injured seaman or longshoreman decides to file a lawsuit. Lawsuits are not always the best option for injured maritime workers so it is important to know all your options before telling your employer anything about your intentions. At Lambert Zainey, our maritime attorneys keep our communications with potential clients strictly confidential so that you do not endanger your job before knowing your best course of action.
