A third-party construction worker was killed Saturday while replacing firewater plug piping on an oil platform off the Louisiana coast. No other injuries were reported and no pollution occurred as a result of the incident.
The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement is investigating the fatality, which occurred on a platform operated by Energy Resource Technology, a subsidiary of Houston-based Talos.
The platform is located about 64 miles south of Lake Charles, in an area of the Gulf known as West Cameron 215A.
In April 2016, Energy Resource Technology pled guilty to two felony counts of violating the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act and two felony counts of violating the Clean Water Act as a result of conduct at its Gulf of Mexico offshore oil production facilities. In 2012, the company was sentenced to three years of probation, fined $4 million and ordered to pay a $200,000 community service payment for violations on its Gulf facilities.
The New Orleans offshore accident lawyers at Lambert Zainey have been representing the rights of injured maritime workers, and the families of workers who have been killed in offshore accidents, for more than 40 years.
